Though I have sometimes dreamt frivolously of running a blog so successful it would defy all expectations, be incredibly influential, and have its readers engage in enthusiastic discussion… That is not my hope for this blog.
In truth, I am quite a private person. I have not quite reconciled my need for privacy and my desire to share my writing and thoughts on the internet where it is publicly available. Even a fraction of the imagined amount of attention would give me heart palpitations, making me fret about every single word I put down. So, why write and publish? Why do it anyway?
To grow.
I want to write to process, preserve, and practice deliberately. It is an avenue for learning; as good a starting point as any for dusting off the habit of writing. I want to get better at a familiar-but-neglected medium of communication.
I want to share for posterity. To have records of discoveries, musings, conversations and the insights of conversations. I publish, in hopes I might contribute to someone’s journey in some way. The written words of others have given me much food for thought over the past few years. Their generosity inspires me to pay it forward. I hope there’s something worthwhile here for a wandering reader: if not inspiration, perhaps something to sate their curiosity or simply a way to pass the time.
For you, wandering reader. Even if you are me, looking back.
